The German Insurance Bank Building, built in 1887, is an award winning example of Godsey Associates Architects' strong capabilities and expertise in historic renovation. The building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, was in danger of demolition and decay when the project was undertaken. Godsey Associates paid great attention to historic detail to restore this building to its original condition. The building had extensive damage due to four years of exposure and neglect. The roof, a sky light, rear wall, ornamental plaster detailing, and original marble floors were completely restored. New mechanical and electrical systems were installed in order to meet current building codes and tenant needs. The project was constructed fast-track with more than 28 separate bid packages. Demolition began in August 1993 and the move-in date was December 1993. The project was completed in accordance with National Park Service Standards and the Kentucky Heritage Council, making it eligible for Historic Tax Credits.
