The 80 bed secure juvenile detention facility is a regional facility located in Lexington, Kentucky. This 37,100 square
foot facility houses a variety of spaces necessary to juvenile detention. Besides the 80 bed spaces (the building is
designed to accommodate an additional 20-40 beds) it includes spaces for youth workers, counselors, general administrative
areas, visitation, video arraignment as well as indoor and outdoor recreation and educational space. Full laundry, dining,
kitchen, intake and medical space is included as is general building spaces such as mechanical and electrical.
The entire structure is a load bearing masonry structure. Three entrances serve the facility: the loading area, general
intake and the main entrance where staff and visitors enter the facility. The central control room operates all of the
building controls and its security controls: fire alarm, HVAC, plumbing management, door intercom, camera and lighitng.
This is the seventh facility for juveniles that the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Department of Juvenile Justice has
asked Godsey Associates to design, bringing another state of the art facility fruition for this relatively new
Department.
