When the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center decided to expand, it was to include additional lobby, exhibit and conference
space. The multi-purpose exhibit hall and conference center host a variety of events ranging from banquets, dances and
meetings to RV, boat and cattle shows. The KFEC Phase II Expansion includes a 129,000 sf. exhibit hall, with columns spaced
at 120' centers, stretching to touch the 27' ceiling. An operable wall separates the new exhibit hall from the existing
space. The 28,350 sf. conference center is versatile because of operable walls located along the concourse, allowing the
area to be divided in to six 600 sf. conference rooms. Otherwise, it provides up to 24,000 sf. of column-free space,
finished with vinyl covered walls with carpeted floors and 22' acoustical ceilings. The new lobby is 13,000 square feet.
This project remained well within budget and was completed on the fast-track schedule with the owner taking possession in
October 1993. This project also included the support facilities such as loading docks, concession stands and toilet
rooms.
