Project of the Year
The Louisville Federal Building renovation began in 1992. From the beginning of this project, one of the major challenges
is that 95% occupancy had to remain in the building during construction. Federal Government agencies were relocated to
on-site temporary office space. This temporary space had to be constantly modified to meet the different communication,
security and space needs of the various agencies such as the Defense Mapping Agency, the Drug Enforcement Administration,
the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Corps of Engineers, Senators Ford, Mazzoli, and McConnell, and military
administrative offices, all with a minimum amount of disruption.
The complex renovation included demolition of the existing mechanical and electrical systems, all restroom facilities,
office spaces and asbestos abatement. All communication, security, plumbing and office space have been overhauled to meet
modern codes and tenant needs. Windows and floors have been replaced and a new modern cafeteria facility and vending rooms
have been redone and the elevators have been completely renovated.
